IBM SVC

Monitor IBM SAN Volume Controller and StoreWize Appliances

Data Collection Setup

Metrics are collected via CLI on the SVC or StoreWize appliance. These are collected securely using ssh.

Network Requirements

Port: 22 (TCP) SSH for CLI data collection on the SVC/StoreWize system.

Least Privileged User

1.From the SVC GUI, navigate to Access -> Users, then select Create User.

  1. In the user creation screen, enter a name ("svclpu" here), specify Authentication Mode as "Local" and User Group as "Monitor".
  2. Enter a password for the LPU.
  3. Click Create.

Compression Active

Indicates whether there are any compressed volume copies in the cluster.

Displays the allocated CPU capacity utilized for compression.

Compression Compressed Capacity (Mebibytes)

Indicates the total used capacity for all compressed volume copies in the cluster. This value is in unsigned decimal format.

Compression Destage Mode Enabled

Whether compression destage mode is enabled.

Compression Uncompressed Capacity (Mebibytes)

Indicates the total uncompressed used capacity for all compressed volume copies in the cluster. This value is in unsigned decimal format.

Compression Virtual Capacity (Mebibytes)

Indicates the total virtual capacity for all compressed volume copies in the cluster. This value is in unsigned decimal format.

Console IP

The IP address and port of the console.

Email State

The state of the email service.

Fibre Channel Data Transferred (Megabytes per Second)

Displays the total data transferred per time unit for Fibre Channel traffic on the system. This value includes host I/O and any bandwidth that is used for communication within the system.

Fibre Channel IO Operations (Operations per Second)

Displays the total input/output (I/O) operations transferred per time unit for Fibre Channel traffic on the system. This value includes host I/O and any bandwidth that is used for communication within the system.

Gen1 Compatibility Mode Enabled

Indicates whether a system is compatible with a downlevel system (such as a Storwize V7000 Gen1 ) system.

Global Mirror Inter Cluster Delay Simulation (Milliseconds)

Specifies the intersystem delay simulation, which simulates the Global Mirror round trip delay between two systems.

Global Mirror Intra Cluster Delay Simulation (Milliseconds)

Specifies the intrasystem delay simulation, which simulates the Global Mirror round trip delay between two systems.

Global Mirror Link Tolerance (Seconds)

The length of time for which an inadequate intersystem link is tolerated for a Global Mirror operation.

Global Mirror Maximum Host Delay (Milliseconds)

Specifies the maximum time delay at which the Global Mirror link tolerance timer starts counting down.

ID Alias

Specifies an alternate name that does not change the basic ID for the cluster.

IP Partnership IO Operations (Operations per Second)

The total input/output (I/O) operations transferred per time unit for IP partnership traffic on the system. This value does not include Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) host I/O operations.

IP Replication Data Transferred (Megabytes per Second)

Displays the total data transferred per time unit for Internet Protocol (IP) replication traffic on the system. This value does not include iSCSI host input/output (I/O) operations.

IP Replication Link Compressed Data Transferred (Megabytes per Second)

Displays the average compressed data transferred per time unit over the IP replication link during the sample period.

ISCSI Data Transferred (Megabytes per Second)

Displays the total data transferred per time unit for iSCSI traffic on the system.

ISCSI IO Operations (Operations per Second)

Displays the total I/O operations transferred per time unit for iSCSI traffic on the system.

Layer

The value can be either:

  • replication, which means the cluster can create partnerships.
  • storage (default), which means the cluster can present storage.

Local Fibre Channel Port Mask

Indicates the Fibre Channel (FC) input/output (I/O) ports that a system can use for node-to-node communications on a local system if those FC I/O ports exist on a node. The value is 64 binary bits.

Locale

The locale of the cluster.

Location

The location of the system.

Maximum Replication Delay

Indicates the value for maximum replication delay. This is a numeric value from 0 to 360.

Name

The name of the cluster.

Offloaded Data Transfer Enabled

Indicates whether offloaded data transfer (ODX) is enabled or disabled.

Partner Fibre Channel Port Mask

Indicates the FC I/O ports that a system can use for system-to-system communications on a partner system if those FC I/O ports exist on a node. The value is 64 binary bits.

Partnership

The type of partnership configured.

Partnership Exclusion Threshold

Indicates the partnership exclusion threshold value. This is a numeric value from 30 to 315.

Product Name

Indicates the product name (an alphanumeric string of no more than 62 characters).

Displays the total I/O operations transferred per time unit for SAS traffic on the system. This value includes host I/O and bandwidth that is used for background RAID activity.

Space Allocated To Virtual Disks (Mebibytes)

The amount of space allocated to virtual disks.

Space In Pool Groups (Mebibytes)

The space allocated to the managed disk groups.

Statistics Frequency

The frequency of statistics polling.

The statistics status.

System Allocated CPU (%)

Displays the allocated CPU capacity utilized for the cluster.

Tier 0 Flash Capacity (Mebibytes)

Indicates the Tier 0 flash storage total capacity.

Tier 0 Flash Compressed Data Used (Mebibytes)

Indicates the capacity of compressed data used on the flash tier 0 storage tier. The value must be a number with two decimal places.

Tier 0 Flash Free Space (Mebibytes)

Indicates the Tier 0 flash free space.

The ratio of total_allocated_extent_capacity, total_tier_capacity metrics.

Total Tier Free Space (Mebibytes)

The sum of tier_0_flash_free_space, tier_1_flash_free_space, tier_enterprise_flash_free_space, tier_nearline_flash_free_space metrics.

The difference of total_tier_capacity, total_tier_free_space metrics.

Virtual Disk Protection Enabled

Indicates whether virtual disk protection is enabled or disabled for a system.

Indicates the virtual disk protection time (whether volume protection is enabled or not enabled). The value must be a number from 15 (default) to 1440.

Name
Description

Automatic Expansion

Indicates whether 'autoexpand' is enabled on a thin-provisioned Snapshot.

Capacity (Mebibytes)

The full amount of space allocated to the Snapshot.

Compressed Copy

Indicates whether or not the Snapshot is compressed.

Easy Tier

Indicates whether Easy Tier is permitted to manage the Storage Pool. If 'on', Easy Tier Status can take on any value. If 'off', Easy Tier Status is 'measured' or 'inactive'.

Easy Tier Status

Indicates which Easy Tier functions are active for the Snapshot:

  • 'active' indicates a Storage Pool is being managed by Easy Tier to provide tier management performance-based pool balancing. For example, extents of this Snapshot can be moved for performance (automatic data placement).
  • 'inactive' indicates that no Easy Tier function is active.
  • 'balanced' indicates a Storage Pool is being managed by Easy Tier to provide performance-based pool balancing (for example, extents can be moved).
  • 'measured' indicates that statistics are being gathered for this Snapshot, but no extents are moved.

Encrypted

Indicates whether the volume and its copies are encrypted.

Free Capacity (Mebibytes)

The difference between the 'Real Capacity' and 'Used Capacity'. This value is zero for fully-allocated copies.

Grain Size

For thin-provisioned Snapshots, indicates the grain size chosen for the Snapshot when it was created.

Overallocation (%)

Indicates the ratio of Capacity to Real Capacity values.

Parent Storage Pool ID

Indicates the physical Storage Pool ID that the volume extents are actually allocated from.

Parent Storage Pool Name

Indicates the physical Storage Pool name that the volume extents are actually allocated from.

Pool ID

The ID of the Storage Pool that the Snapshot belongs to.

Pool Name

The name of the Storage Pool that the Snapshot belongs to.

Real Capacity (Mebibytes)

Indicates the amount of physical storage that is allocated from a Storage Pool to this Snapshot. If the Snapshot is not thin-provisioned (i.e. fully-allocated), the value is the same as 'Capacity'. If the Snapshot is thin-provisioned, the value can be different.

Status

System status of the Snapshot. A Snapshot is offline if all nodes cannot access the Storage Pool that contains the Snapshot.

Synchronized

Whether or not the Snapshot is synchronized.

Thin Provisioned

Specifies if the copy is thin-provisioned or not.

Type

The virtualization type of the Snapshot.

Uncompressed Used Capacity (Mebibytes)

For compressed Snapshots, indicates the amount of data written to the volume before compression.

Used Capacity (Mebibytes)

Indicates the portion of 'Real Capacity' that is being used to store data. For non-thin-provisioned (fully-allocated) Snapshots, this value is the same as the Capacity. If the Snapshot is thin-provisioned, the value increases from zero to the 'Real Capacity' value as more of the volume is written to.

Virtual Disk Copy ID

The system-provided unique identifier for the Snapshot. The value can be '0' or '1'.

Virtual Disk ID

The system-provided unique identifier for the Virtual Disk from which this Snapshot originated.

Virtual Disk Name

The name of the Snapshot.

Warning Level (%)

Indicates that a warning is generated when the ratio of Used Capacity to Capacity reaches the specified level.

Capacity (Mebibytes)

The total amount of MDisk storage that is assigned to the storage pool.

Capacity Usage (%)

The ratio of real_used_capacity, capacity metrics.

Child Pools Capacity (Mebibytes)

Indicates the total amount of space reserved for child pools.

Child Pools Count

Indicates the number of child pools in the parent pools.

Compression Active

Indicates whether there are any compressed volume copies in the storage pool.

Compression Compressed Capacity (Mebibytes)

Indicates the total used capacity for all compressed volume copies in the storage pool.

The number of managed disks that are in the storage pool.

Overallocation (%)

The ratio of the virtual_capacity value to the capacity. An storage pool overallocation of over 100 is only possible if you have configured thin-provisioned volume copies.

The number of volume copies that are in the storage pool.

Warning Threshold (%)

A warning is generated when the amount of space in the storage pool that has been assigned exceeds this level.

The maximum value of the worst_read_response_time metric from descendants of type Virtual Disk.

Analysis State

Indicates the state of analysis for the Virtual Disk, can be one of the following values:

  • idle, which means that the Virtual Disk was never analyzed
  • scheduled, which means that the Virtual Disk is scheduled for analysis (the analysis starts based on ascending Virtual Disk IDs)
  • active, which means that the Virtual Disk is being analyzed
  • estimated, which means that the Virtual Disk was analyzed and the analysis results reflect the estimated savings from thin provisioning and compression
  • sparse, which means that the Virtual Disk was analyzed but not enough samples of nonzero data were found
  • cancelling, which means the analysis is undergoing but there is a request to cancel it, and the analysis has not ended.

The ratio of real_capacity, total_capacity metrics.

Change Virtual Disk

Indicates if a Virtual Disk is a change Virtual Disk of a remote copy relationship.

Compressed Copy Count

Indicates the number of compressed Virtual Disk copies.

The cumulative latency of read operations.

Encrypted

Indicates whether all copies of a Virtual Disk reside in Storage Pools that are reported as encrypting.
This means that either one of the following things apply:

  • The copies reside in a Storage Pool that has an encryption key.
  • All Management Disks in the group are self-encrypting or encrypted for RAID.

Estimated Compressed Size (Mebibytes)

Indicates the estimated size of any nonzero data after compression completes.

Estimated Thin-Provisioned Size (Mebibytes)

Indicates the estimated size of the data without zero portions (thin-provisioned size).

Expected Compressed Savings (Mebibytes)

Indicates how much data to expect to save if the Virtual Disk is a compressed Virtual Disk.

Expected Compressed Savings Ratio (%)

Indicates the amount of data that is saved by compression.

Expected Thin-Provisioned Savings (Mebibytes)

Indicates how much data that is expected to be saved if it is a thin-provisioned Virtual Disk.

Expected Thin-Provisioned Savings Ratio (%)

Indicates the ratio of data that is saved by thin-provisioned.

Expected Total Savings Ratio (%)

Indicates the amount of data saved by compression based on the overall Virtual Disk capacity, which includes the thin nature of compressed Virtual Disk.

Expected Total Savings Size (Mebibytes)

Indicates how much data to expect to save by compression, which includes the thin nature of compressed Virtual Disks.

Fast Write State

Indicates the cache state for the Virtual Disk or Snapshot. The value can be empty, not_empty, corrupt, or repairing. A cache state of corrupt indicates that the Virtual Disk or Snapshot requires repairing or recovery by using either the recovervdisk or repairvdiskcopy command.

FlashCopy ID

Indicates the ID of the FlashCopy mapping that the Virtual Disk belongs to. The value many indicates that the Virtual Disk belongs to more than one FlashCopy mapping.

FlashCopy Map Count

Indicates the number of FlashCopy mappings that the Virtual Disk belongs to.

FlashCopy Name

Indicates the name of the FlashCopy mapping that the Virtual Disk belongs to. The value many indicates that the Virtual Disk belongs to more than one FlashCopy mapping.

Free Capacity (Mebibytes)

Indicates the difference between the real_capacity and used_capacity values.

Function

Indicates the function of the Virtual Disk in the remote copy relationship. Remote copy includes Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, and HyperSwap.
The values are:

  • master, which indicates a master Virtual Disk in a remote copy relationship.
  • aux, which indicates an auxiliary Virtual Disk in a remote copy relationship.
  • master_change, which indicates a change Virtual Disk for a master Virtual Disk in a remote copy relationship.
  • aux_change, which indicates a change Virtual Disk for an auxiliary Virtual Disk in a remote copy relationship.
  • Blank, which indicates that the Virtual Disk is not in any remote copy relationship.
